Computers and most electronics contain toxic materials such as lead, zinc, nickel, flame retardants, barium, and chromium. When the materials make way to the environment and food chain they can gradually cause impacts to the environment & human health.
1. Environmental Impacts: Pollution and contamination of land, water and air. Happens through dumping in dump-sites, poor storage, burning to attain precious metals, poor disposal and mixing with general waste.
2. Health impacts: Toxins from e-waste cause damage to human blood, kidneys, as well as central and peripheral nervous systems. Happens from exposure to e-waste toxins when not properly handled and inhaling toxins during combustion/ burning, consumption of food that grew on contaminated ground.
